Assam : Grenade blast in Tinsukia, CM orders probe

A grenade exploded at Tingrai Market of Tinsukia district on Friday. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condemned the explosion.

An investigation into the matter has been ordered by the CM. The Director-General of Assam Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta has been directed to grab the troublemakers.

Sarma said, “This act of violence is a sign of desperation and cowardice. The state government will never tolerate such kind of high-handedness leading to the loss of precious human lives”.

Security forces including Range DIG moved to the spot after the incident.

The blast is suspected to be an act of the ULFA (I) injuring two persons while taking lives of two.

The deceased have been recognized as Sanjit Singh (25) and Surajit Talukdar (22), of the Tingrai area.

ULFA (I) released a statement denying the act. The statement read, “Assam police have planted explosives in the houses of the people and blaming us. We have got enough evidence against them”.
