Homen Borgohain, the eminent litterateur and veteran journalist breathed his last on May 12 (Wednesday) at 6:58 am after experiencing a cardiac arrest.
Borgohain collapsed at his residence and was moved to GNRC Hospital in Guwahati on Wednesday.
The renowned author and former president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha was 88-years old. On April 24, Borgohain tested positive for COVID-19. He was however tested negative for the virus on May 7 and was released from the GMCH.
Borgohain was the editor-in-chief of the Assamese newspaper, Niyomiya Barta. For his Assamese language novel Pita Putra in 1978, he was rewarded with the Sahitya Akademi Award which he returned during the year 2015 as a symbol of protest against the intolerance created towards in Indian society.
Homen Borgohain was born on December 7, 1932, in a small village Dhakuakhana , Lakhimpur, Assam.
