Lwrgi Theatre Group (LTG) of Kokrajhar celebrated Magh Bihu or Domachi with traditional fervour on Saturday evening by offering delicacies like sithao, pitha, laru, enthao, and meat to guests and other visitors at their Artists’ Village, Chandamari near Gaurang River in Kokrajhar.
They invited renowned artists, singers, local intellectuals, cultural association workers, and guests from the arts and other fields.
The LTG artists prepared local eateries, roasted pork, and fish on the spot to showcase traditional delicacies to offer to guests, especially during Domachi celebrations.
The guests and artists enjoyed the day by singing folk songs and performing traditional dances with traditional musical instruments.
Many well-known and elderly singers performed folk songs as part of the celebration.
Some of the guests, including noted writer and retired teacher Uttara Bwiswmuthiary, recited folk tales to the children.
During the programme, renowned artiste Tikendrajit Narzary alias Jalako, the famous artiste of the first Bodo feature film Alayaron, praised the LTG for organising a wonderful Domachi programme with traditional zeal.
He emphasised the importance of preserving folk songs and dances, as well as traditional delicacies.
Narzary, recalling the rich culture and traditions of the Bodos, urged the younger generations to imbibe the rich culture and its identity.
Meanwhile, LTG secretary Sanjib Kr. Brahma stated that the group celebrated Domachi with traditional zeal in order to showcase Domachi celebrations and the preparation of traditional delicacies.
Brahma stated that LTG had been working with the region’s aspiring actors to preserve and promote Bodo drama.
He stated that they had staged many dramas on various platforms in various cities throughout India under the Eastern Cultural Zone and received a lot of positive feedback.
Because there are many National School of Drama (NSD) passout students in their group, they used to stage dramas of legendary heroes and heroines, as well as typical dramas based on specific situations, he said, adding that they also used to perform street plays to send positive messages to society.
He did, however, claim that LTG lacked funds and basic infrastructure for the performers.
