Assam : Order over framing of charges against ex-APSC chairman Rakesh Paul

In the 2014 cash-for-job scam, framing of charges were ordered against former APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul, by a speial court on June 24(Thursday).

Dipak Thakuria , Special Judge, Assam had ordered the charges to be framed under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13 (2) (public servant committing criminal misconduct) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Shon Kumar Baishya filed an FIR against former Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) chairman under bribery case for selection in the civil service examination for the year 2014. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) then registered a case against Paul.

A chargesheet was filed against Paul by the CID, and Special Judges Court registered it as special case number 4/2021.

Police arrested Paul in November 2016 for taking bribes to provide jobs to civil services aspirants. Paul was appointed as the APSC chairman in the year 2013.

Around 70 people, that include over 55 civil service officers were arrested after the police revealed the fraud case in 2016.
