Gorchuk police in Guwahati arrested a youth from Gogamukh in Assam’s Dhemaji district for commenting against Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Facebook.
The apprehended has been recognized as Nipom Chutia who served as a journalist earlier.
The youth on his facebook post on May 20, 2021 alleged that the chief minister of Assam in the name of ULFA(I), made extortion demands.
The youth also alleged Chief Minister Sarma for “killing” Manabendra Sarma.
The police have registered a case (No 353/21), under sections 294A/506) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology 67.
Under Section 506 of IPC (punishment for criminal intimidation), an accused shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine,
