During a raid at the Railway line in Dibrugarh, Assam, police arrested a drug peddler and recovered 47.3 grams of heroin, on Sunday.
A raid was done at the residence of Salim Hussain by a police team led by DSP Anup Jyoti Baruah, Officer in charge of Dibrugarh PS Rajiv Saikia, and TSI Arjun Singh and zeized heroin worth Rs 5 lakh.
Saikia said, “We have seized 47.3 grams of heroin from a drug peddler. Our crackdown against drugs will continue. He will be forward to court on Monday”.
According to sources, Dibrugarh is a hub of the narcotics trade as “drug smugglers run the racket in an organized way.”
“The drug smugglers involve women and children in their team for easy transporting of the contraband items. Through an organized way, the whole nexus has been running in Dibrugarh,” said a source.
As per sources, the drug smugglers import the contraband from Bihar via railways.
