On Thursday, Congress nominated Minister Sum Ronghang to contest the upcoming Assam Assembly polls from Diphu constituency. The BJP minister joined the Congress after he was denied a ticket. He holds the portfolios of Hill Areas Development and Mines and Minerals

The fourth list for Assam was issued by All India Congress Committee General Secretary Mukul Wasnik that contained two names, which included Ronghang for the Diphu seat in Karbi Anglong district.
For the Bokajan constituency, Raton Engti is the candidate.
At present Ronghang is a BJP MLA from the Diphu constituency, which will go on polls in the second phase on April 1.
The names for 26 constituencies that are going to polls during the second phase were released by AICC on Wednesday night.
71 candidates has been named out of 86 constituencies in the first and second phase of polling by the by the main opposition party.
The Congress, has formed a Grand Alliance with AIUDF, Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML), Anchalik Gana Morcha (AGM) and RJD to compete in the upcoming Assembly election against the BJP-led NDA.
