Lok Sabha MP from Nagaon and Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi is confident that the Grand Alliance (Mahajath) will form the next government. He asserted that the chief ministerial candidate will come from the grand old party, once it comes to power.
Bordoloi who is also the Congress campaign committee chairman is campaigning for party candidate, Subhramitra Gogoi in Sivasagar. Bordoloi said, “There is no doubt that the Chief Minister and Home Minister in the next government would be from the Congress… when it the party gets majority of the votes in the Grand Alliance.”
The Congress-led “Grand Alliance” consist of the Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF), three Left parties (CPI, CPI (M) and CPI (M-L), Anchalik Gana Morcha and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
“Our alliance comprises progressive political parties, and we are confident of winning the elections. We have already announced five guarantees… and we are committed to the guarantees… unlike the BJP, which only made promises since 2014 and 2016 (when the BJP government was formed in Assam) but failed to live up to them,” Bordoloi said.
“Upon coming to power, the Congress guarantees that the Citizenship Amendment Act, which was passed in Parliament, will never be implemented in Assam,” he said.
Raijor Dal president Akhil Gogoi will be contesting the Sibsagar seat as an Independent candidate, since the party has not been registered with the Election Commission of India as a political party.
Akhil withdrew his candidature from his home constituency of Mariani.
Sitting Mariani MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi on Sunday said, “the saffron party can bring as many star campaigners it wants, but they would be of no use… Here (in Mariani) people are concerned about basic issues like the prices of mustard oil and others essential items, which have skyrocketed.”
