Assam: Schools to reopen for class 10 on September 20

Sikkim: Teacher shortage in Rolep School; non-teaching staff taking classes

The Assam cabinet approved the reopening of schools for class 10 on Thursday. “The cabinet has decided to allow the re-opening of physical sessions for class X from September 20,” Assam education minister Ranuj Pegu said. Classes for the final year of high school and the final semester of TDC began on September 6.

Meanwhile, Assam’s education minister stated that a decision on reopening schools for other classes will be made following an assessment of the state’s COVID-19 situation in the next ten days.

As the situation in Assam with Covid-19 improves, the state government will restart physical education lessons for students in grades 10 and 11 beginning this month. Assam education minister Dr Ranoj Pegu announced the decision, saying that while physical lessons will resume, hostels will stay closed till further orders.

He also stated that classes for the 12th grade and degree programmes had already begun throughout the state. “It will no more be online. Our classes will slowly open. On Thursday you will get more good news. The next cabinet meeting will take a decision on this very soon,” said Dr. Ranoj Pegu said on Tuesday.

Educational institutions will reopen for final-year sessions – Class XII, TDC final year, and post-graduation final year – on Monday after a long wait. The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on the educational system and classroom learning.
