A protest was staged in Jorhat by Jorhat units of the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) demanding employment to the BJP led Assam government.
To take part in the state-wide campaign titled “Where is my Job?”, protestors assembled near the Bisturam Baroaah Hall in Jorhat on Tuesday.
Slogans shouting removal of the government from power were heard.
A memorandum to Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal was submitted, before the Jorhat deputy commissioner.
The two students’ organizations demanded an eight-point character in the memorandum.
BJP promised 2 crores jobs by the central government and 5 lakhs jobs by the state government before coming to power, stated the students’ organizations.
After the present government came into power from 2016, the unemployment numbers in Assam increased by 4 lakhs, as per reports by the State Innovation and Transformation Aayog.
The conducted Government recruitment exams in the state also reported corruption.
Relatives and associates of BJP leaders were also involved in this corruption.
A member of SFI said, “The investigations ordered by the government to probe corrupt practices is just an eyewash”.
The member said, “Despite this, the BJP claims to win more than 100 seats in the 2021 elections. The people of Assam should give a befitting reply to it by way of ballots”.
Social security and employment should decide strongly in ensuing assembly elections, said SFI and DYFI members.
Till the last day of voting, the state-wide-campaign will be continued by the organizations.
