Assam: Ship-repair facility to be built at Pandu, Guwahati

A ship repair factory is expected to open shortly in Pandu, Guwahati, Assam. The Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) has planned to construct a ship repair facility, known as a Slipway, in Pandu, on the Brahmaputra’s southern bank.

This is significant since it will be the first ship repair facility in Northeast. Ships must now be sent to Kolkata for dry docking, which is both expensive and time-consuming.

On Thursday, IWAI and the Hooghly Cochin Shipyard Limited (HCSL) inked an agreement to establish a ship repair facility in Pandu, Guwahati.
