Assam: Students demonstrates in support of Capital Penalty Perpetrators

Several hundred students from Dhemaji’s various educational institutions staged a massive protest on Tuesday, led by the Dhemaji district unit of the All Assam Students’ Union, demanding exemplary punishment for Rintu Sarmah, who attacked two students of Moridhol College, as well as the father of one of them.

Rintu Sarmah used a sharp weapon to attack Nandita Saikia and Kashmina Dutta, as well as Kashmina’s father Deba Dutta, at Dhemaji town on August 21. Nandita was taken to Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh, for advanced treatment in serious condition after Rintu Sarmah, a Fourth Grade employee of the same college, was detained by Dhemaji police. Kashmina and Deba Dutta, on the other hand, are currently receiving treatment at Dhemaji Civil Hospital. The Dhemaji AASU asked that the State Government assume responsibility for the treatment of the seriously injured two victim students. The group filed a memorandum to the Dhemaji Deputy Commissioner in this respect. The group chastised the state government for failing to suspend the offender until now.
