Assam: Transgenders Harassed Woman Journalist on Bus in Goalpara

On Monday, a group of transgenders allegedly harassed a female journalist in Dhupdhora, Goalpara district, Lower Assam. Trishna Das, a freelance journalist, was riding in a bus from Guwahati to Goalpara when the incident occurred.

The female journalist recounted her ordeal on social media. In a Facebook post, journalist Das said she was on a bus when a transgender approached her and asked for money.

“Today, I travelled in a private ultra bus from Guwahati to Goalpara. When the bus arrived in Dhupdhora around 12:20 p.m., it came to a halt for a few minutes when a maskless person (who appeared to be a transgender) boarded. People onboard began demanding money from the individual. As I watched the person move from one seat to the next, the person snatched a hundred rupees from a bus passenger. “Suddenly, someone came very close to me and demanded money from me as well; I shook my head and said ‘No,’” Das explained.
