A unilateral ceasefire was announced by banned Assam militant outfit ULFA-I for three months, on Saturday.
ULFA-I stated, “Due to COVID-19 induced situation, ULFA-I has decided to suspend all military operations on its part for the next three months with effect from today.”
ULFA-I accused the Assam Police and the Indian security forces for “orchestrating a conspiracy” against the group.
“It has come to our notice that in this hour of need, a section of Assam police officials and Indian security forces are orchestrating conspiracy to malign the image of ULFA-I,” the statement added.
The ceasefire announcement came after a grenade blast occured in upper Assam’s Tinsukia district leaving two persons dead and two others severely injured.
ULFA-I issued a statement claiming that the blast was not their act, after fingers pointed towards them.
