Assam : Union Home Minister to visit Kokrajhar, Nalbari

Two mega public rallies will be addressed by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Kokrajhar and Nalbari, Assam on January 24.

He will also attend the signing of the historic Bodo Peace Accord at Green Field in Kokrajhar which will mark its one year celebration.

Shah will move to Lower Assam town Nalbari to attend another meeting after his visit to Kokrajhar.

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health, Finance, Education Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma is most likely to accompany Shah.

Additional Director-General of Police (ADGP) LR Bishnoi said tight security has been placed. Over 2000 people have been allotted to fix handle any issue in the Greenfield Ground in Bodofa Nagar, Kokrajhar. The ground has a capacity to accommodate over 3.5 lakh people.

Around 400 CCTVs have been installed and two control rooms have been set up to keep a constant eye.

Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is impatiently looking forward for the Home Minister’s visit in signing the BTR peace accord, said Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Promod Boro.

The 1st BTR Peace Accord signing ceremony will be celebrated for four days starting from January 24. The day is celebrated as Accord Day.

The peace agreement ‘the third Bodo Accord’ in Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) spread over four districts- Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa, and Udalguri) was signed on January 27, 2020, a day after the 71st Republic Day by the Home Ministry, Assam government, and a range of Bodo stakeholders. The Accord, promises to bring in ‘permanent peace’.
