For the benefit of local and regional issues, United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) should join together to form the government, said Former Lok Sabha MP and president of All India Bodo People’s National League for Statehood Movement, SK Bwiswmuthiary on Wednesday.
The democratic norms in BTC were violated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and they had hijacked the public representatives who recently won in the last BTC general election, said Bwiswmuthiary, speaking to media on Wednesday. After the results of 4th BTC election was declared, the BJP hijacked the UPPL, GSP and Congress candidates and they were confined in a hotel at Guwahati city and currently being confined in Assam Bhavan, Shillong, which was not at all a democratic behavior. He said, by misusing power, the BJP tried to murder democracy.
The BPF was not invited by the Governor to form the government even after getting the highest number of elected representatives in the recently concluded election, said Bwiswmuthiary. Instead, the BJP and UPPL alliance was given priority by violating the norms. To make sure that the local issues are protected, the leaders of UPPL were called upon by Bwiswmuthiary to form the government with the BPF in BTC
The decision of Gauhati High Court was acclaimed by the former MP that stayed the functioning of the UPPL-led government in BTC and said the floor test for showing majority number by UPPL and BPF should have been held after seven days.
The decision to form the Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) was also praised by Bwiswmuthiary. He said, the leaders and supporters of UBPO (United Bodo People’s Organization) have struggled hard for BKWAC, and that they should not be saffronized over political games by the government. Few months back, the BJP was joined by over 700 member of UBPO.
