Assam : UPPL-BJP-GSP wins BTC trust vote

22 MCLAs (members of Bodoland Territorial Council Legislative Assembly) voted for the Pramod Boro-led UPPL-BJP-GSP party alliance in the “composite floor test” on December 24.

The floor test was conducted by the BTC Assembly Speaker, where 22 MCLAs voted by raising their hands for the three-party alliance even after BPF elected members displayed placards of “Save Democracy” before the Speaker.

Heated arguments were exchanged by the BPF elected representatives with the alliance party members. Microphones were also removed from the oath-taking platform ,violating the BTC Assembly decorum.

A ‘composite floor test’ was ordered on December 22 in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) by the Gauhati High Court, to be done before December 26.

A writ petition was filed by the Former BTC chief and President of Bodoland People’s Front (BPF), Hagrama Mohilary, demanding to justify the constitutional validity of the appointment of CEM and other members along with six nominated members in the council.

BTC chief executive member Pramod Boro showed confidence in winning the trust vote.

Boro said after winning the trust vote, “It is a shame that elected representatives for the past 15 years have shown such unruly behaviour to disrupt and stall proceedings in the Assembly. The honourable High Court had directed the floor test, but the process was disrupted by the BPF elected members”.

“All the 40 BTC constituencies will be given equal attention and the underprivileged people will be accorded top priority. We hope that through good governance and clean administration we can weed out corruption and violence from BTC area,” Boro said.

“The floor test has been completed under the directive of the honourable High Court. So the process has been conducted as per the rules,” said former Rajya Sabha MP and BJP leader Biswajit Daimary.
