Brahmaputra & Lali flash floods cover large region under Jonai RC

The mighty Brahmaputra and its tributary River Lali have been in flood in Jonai subdivision of Dhemaji district in recent days due to severe and continuous rains in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

As a result, the overflowing water of the two rivers has swamped Mesaki Chapori as well as a large part of the Laimekuri Gaon Panchayat in the district’s Jonai Revenue Circle. The Brahmaputra flash flood has flooded Mesaki Rabha, Mesaki Boro, Mesaki Barman, Barman Tiniali, Mohanamukh, Goala, Milanpur, Singapur, Mukalipothar, Lamajan, Rumoirumoi, Koyola Ali Barman, Mising Kangkan, Koyola Ali Joypur, Ano Chapori, Kejon Dikhari, Koyola Ali Bishnupur, Ramsing Rab. The flood has rendered people’s regular lives impossible, disrupting communication and transportation networks. The situation has deteriorated owing to a lack of safe drinking water and food, and the affected people and animals are suffering greatly as a result. Mesaki Chapori, a river island, has grown isolated.

On the other side, a flash flood produced by the Lali River has swamped 20 villages in the Ramdhon Dikhari Gaon Panchayat’s Bogoriguri region. The UBPO, ABSU, Rabha Students’ Union, and All Bodo Women Welfare Federation (ABWWF) district units in Dhemaji have asked that the district government give disaster aid to flood-affected people.
