The CBI’s appeal against Guwahati-based contractor Bhagya Kalita’s acquittal in the shocking murder case of a woman and her minor daughter was dismissed by the Gauhati High Court.

On Wednesday, a bench of Justice Suman Shyam and Justice Parthivjyoti Saikia dismissed the CBI’s criminal appeal challenging the trial court’s decision acquitting Bhagya Kalita and another individual of charges of murder under section 302 IPC.

In the aforementioned appeal, senior counsels A.K. Bhattacharya and D.K. Mishra represented the defendants.
In 1995, Kalita and another person were charged with the murder of Karabi Das, Ujjal Kr Das’s wife, and their small daughter Dubori.

22 years after the murder of Karabi and her daughter, a lower court acquitted accused contractor Bhagya Kalita and his driver Fatikur Ali.

The CBI has filed charges against Bhagya Kalita and two of his colleagues, alleging that they were engaged in the murder of the mother-daughter pair. Karabi and her daughter were assassinated in 1995 at their home in Ambari, Guwahati.
