In the Bodoland Territorial Region, the Assam Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed the first charge sheet against 40 people accused of obtaining and facilitating fake Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) certificates (BTR).
The CID filed a 1175-page charge sheet in Kamrup Metro Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJMcourt )’s on Friday against 33 teachers and seven middlemen.
Within 60 days of the case’s registration on October 3, 2021, a detailed sheet listing 106 witnesses and 38 material objects was filed with the court.
Among the accused middlemen are a lecturer from a government college in Nagaon and three state government employees.
The 40 suspects were apprehended and remanded in judicial custody in the districts of Kamrup (Rural), Chirang, Udalguri, Nagaon, and Hojai.
The teachers had obtained fake TET pass certificates from the main accused by paying lakhs of rupees through middlemen, according to the investigation.
Pay-in-slips were seized from various bank branches in the BTR area and Kamrup district, which were used to deposit the money collected from the candidates.
The money was tracked to the main accused after the handwriting on the pay-in slips matched the specimen writings of the arrested middlemen.
Experts confirmed that the TET certificates submitted by these candidates for securing appointments were also fake and fabricated.
A press where the fake TET certificates were printed was raided, according to the release, and a computer hard disc containing images of fake TET certificates, documents containing the list of candidates, and blank TET certificates were seized. During the investigation, the printing press was sealed.
Assam police said in a statement that they are conducting additional investigations to track down a few more accused who have gone missing, as well as to identify similar other fraudulent appointments in the Education Department.
