Because of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has prohibited all public picnic gatherings in the Darrang district. The DDMA has issued a notice prohibiting public gatherings for picnic purposes in the district beginning Thursday and continuing until further orders are issued.

An order by the DDMA Chairman and Darrang Deputy Commissioner Pranab Kumar Sarmah stated, “It has come to my notice that COVID 19 protocols like social distancing, using face masks have not been maintained which develop every likelihood of spreading the infections.”

“Hence considering the public hygiene the picnic spots are declared closed from January 20 till further order”, stated the order by Sarmah.

Orang National Park under Dalgaon revenue circle, Kuruwa, Narikoli temple, Kapur Puri temple all under Sipajhar revenue circle, Lakhimpur fishery, Chereng Chapori and Gaa Dhowa ghat all under Mangaldai revenue circle, and Khatara Satra under Patharighat revenue circle are among the popular picnic spots that have been closed for the purpose.

There will, however, be no bar for visitors and tourists to Orang National Park. The order also warned the perpetrators of the said order that they would face charges under both the DM Act and Section 188 of the IPC. Meanwhile, the COVID 19 positive figure has risen to 195 in the last 24 hours, with a positivity rate of 13.54 percent on average.
