On New Year’s Day, Assam saw an almost 70% decrease in the number of accidents, with no incidents reported from Guwahati.
On New Year’s Day, the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) reportedly recorded a total of roughly 293 cases, just 39 of which were traffic accidents, compared to around 500 and more instances the previous year.
Abhijit Sarma, superintendent of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, confirmed that there had been no reports of vehicle accidents in Guwahati.
The 39 traffic accidents reported to the GMCH were all referrals from other districts.
Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Joint Commissioner of Police, stated that New Year’s Eve was a zero-accident day, with no reports from Guwahati.
Mahanta stated that the police had put up 55 checkpoints as strategic places to prevent accidents this year, and that the coordination of the police teams had been successful.
On December 31, Officials from the traffic police department have stated that they have implemented a strategic plan to prevent accidents in the city, particularly during the new year.
Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister, has directed the police department to ensure that no accidents occur during the New Year’s celebrations.
