As the debate over the establishment of government-run CBSE schools in each Assam seat heated up, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that there was nothing wrong with establishing English language schools.
In response to the problems raised by opposition leaders, CM Sarma told the media, “Where is the problem with the CBSE or English schools? We are taking this action to help impoverished kids.”
He went on to say that the government is not forcing anyone to attend an English school, but rather is attempting to provide a better education to select children who wish to learn in English.
The Chief Minister said, “We send our students to good English schools but does that mean we cannot open government-run English schools? We are trying to ease the burden of some parents who wish to send their children to English or CBSE schools.”
He asserted that the 90:10 school-to-student ratio is being maintained in the state, and that 90 percent of schools are still Assamese medium. The CM went on to say that such decisions have been made by previous governments in the state as well, so there is no need for a squabble.
