Guwahati : COVID vaccination drive for migrant workers, truck drivers

A special vaccination drive was launched by Apollo Tyres Foundation in association with Global Organization for Life Development (GOLD) for migrant workers and truck drivers in Guwahati from June 3(Thursday).

Assam government’s health department supported the free COVID-19 vaccination drive which was conducted in the Beharbari area of Guwahati.

The founder of Guwahati-based organization GOLD, Mr. Rajiv Sarma informed that the vaccination drive will be given to migrant workers and truck drivers above 45 years of age.

Sarma said, “There is some kind of system in place for everyone no such facility for the truck drivers or the migrant workers who lack proper documents. Since Beltola is one such area where we see a lot of trucks plying throughout the day, so the idea was to get them vaccinated”.

“We began our work today with that initiative. People have been registered through an offline process”, he added.

However, mandatory COVID-19 tests are required for the beneficiaries before they proceed for the vaccine dose, Sarma added.

Apollo Tyres Foundation targets to vaccinate 100 people on daily basis through this special vaccination drive.
