IRF-Aaranyak donates Utility Vehicle to Orang National Park in Assam

On Wednesday, Aaranyak, in collaboration with the International Rhino Foundation (IRF), presented Orang National Park in Assam’s Darrang district with a utility vehicle.

The vehicle was donated to the national park by Aaranyak, a biodiversity conservation and research organisation, as part of its ongoing efforts to support and complement government agencies’ efforts to conserve the region’s wildlife resources and habitats.

On Wednesday, a 4WD Bolero Camper vehicle was formally handed over to the Mangaldoi Wildlife Division for use in Assam’s Orang National Park, which is home to both the national and state animals, the tiger and the greater one-horned rhino.

Dr. Bibhab Talukdar, CEO of Aaranyak and senior advisor to the International Rhino Foundation for Asian Rhinos, formally handed over the vehicle to Pradipta Barua, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Mangaldoi Wildlife Division.

Dr Talukdar told a crowd that Aaranyak and the International Rhino Foundation (IRF) would do everything possible to support the Assam government’s efforts to strengthen overall conservation efforts in Orang National Park.

According to a press release, he stated that Aaranyak and IRF provided a speed boat and one 4WD Gypsy to Orang National Park in recent years to further enhance the efficacy of Orang NP officials in securing the future of rhinos in the national park.

Because of its rich biodiversity and grassland ecology, the Orang National Park (78.81 sq km) is known as a mini-Kaziranga National Park (KNP).

The national park is home to over 100 one-horned Indian rhinoceros and is a treasure trove of Royal Bengal tigers.

The national park, which has a diverse prey base, poses a conservation challenge because it is located in close proximity to densely populated human settlements, necessitating constant vigilance.

In order to bolster the anti-poaching apparatus in Orang National Park (ONP), Aaranyak has stationed one unit of its K9 dog squad in the park, complete with an experienced handler, for use by park management in an emergency, according to the statement.
