Due to a lack of manpower, normal operations at the Tinsukia District Transport Office (DTO) have been disrupted. Following the transfer/retirement of officials, the office has been run by a skeleton staff.
According to information, seven critical positions, including that of DTO, are vacant. Only one official in each of the three sanctioned positions, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) and Enforcement Inspector (EI), is manning the office.
Even though 30 MVI positions were advertised in 2020, the government allegedly failed to fill them.
Despite being understaffed, the office collected significant revenue by levying taxes and penalties, nearly meeting the government’s target for the fiscal year ending March 2022.
