Assam CM: Left, liberals responsible for bitterness between Hindus and Muslims

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Assam chief minister, also slammed the Congress for allegedly ‘amplifying’ the ‘bitterness’ between the two religions in order to gain votes. “Left and liberals are responsible for bitterness between us (Hindus-Muslims). Congress amplified it for vote bank,” Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

“Following a religion is an academic activity to know yourself. It shouldn’t become a cause for bloodshed and activities against the country,” the Assam chief minister further said.

CM Sarma was speaking during launch of a book on Veer Savarkar at Guwahati in Assam on Saturday.

“After independence, left-liberals designed academic curricula of India in a way that produce rebels. They seek ways to eliminate the respect for State from the minds of the people.” Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the chief minister of Assam, had slammed the Left for’stereotyping’ his government as ‘communal’ earlier in the day.

Veer Savarkar, according to Sarma, was a great freedom fighter and patriot who made a significant contribution to India’s independence.

“I haven’t given the leftist lobby the authority to judge what is and isn’t communal. I shall do whatever it takes for the sake of Indian civilisation,” Sarma had said while speaking at an event.

“It (book on Savarkar) throws light on untold truths and will inspire young readers to challenge historical negations involving the patriot,” the Assam CM said.

He added: “There is an urgent need to make our younger generation aware of the culture and history of our country.”
