NRL & India’s Inland Waterways Authority signs Memorandum of Understanding

On Thursday, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the ‘Transportation of Over-Dimensional Cargo and Project Cargo of Numaligarh Refinery Using Inland Water Transport’.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and AYUSH Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameshwar Teli were present virtually at the MoU signing ceremony held at Kunjakanan-NRL Township. The MoU was signed by P Srinivasan, Director (NER), IWAI, and A P Chakraborty, Sr.CGM( Projects), NRL. Minister of Agriculture and Veterinary Atul Bora, as well as NRL MD S K Barua, were also present.

The MoU will pave the way for IWAI to make rivers navigable all year and assist in the transport of large cargoes and capital equipment, such as single-piece prefabricated process plants, for the refinery expansion project. It will also facilitate trade and commerce because outward freight movement in large consignments will be possible in the future from the river Dhansiri, which is adjacent to the refinery.
