Assam: Poachers allegedly killed rhinos in Kaziranga

A rhino was allegedly killed by poachers in the Kaziranga National Park’s Kohra Range after nearly nine months. According to forest department sources, the exact date of the rhino’s death is unknown, but poachers have taken the horn.

The body was discovered in a decomposed state early on Thursday morning.

This is the first time rhino poaching has occurred in nine months. The most recent incident was in April 2021.

An investigation into the killing has been launched by both the forest department and the police.

Sniffer dogs have been deployed to track down the poachers in the area where the carcass was discovered. The body was discovered just one day after England cricket legend Kevin Pietersen praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for ending rhino poaching in Assam. In Assam, rhino poaching incidents have decreased in recent months.
