On Tuesday night, a 30-year-old woman riding pillion on a Rapido motorcycle was killed on the spot after being hit by a truck in a horrific accident. Runu Das, a resident of the Mathgaria area of the Noonmati police station, was identified as the victim.
Prasanta Das of Fatasil, Ambari, was her husband. According to police, the woman was riding a Rapido bike from Basistha to Lokhra when it lost control at a speed breaker and crashed into a busy road in front of the Sarusajai stadium. A truck (AS02-AC-7662) approaching from behind ran over her and killed her instantly.
On the other hand, Subrata Sarkar, a rider for the app-based bike taxi service, was injured and is in critical condition at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. At Basistha Police Station, police have filed a case (no 2263/21) under sections 279/338/304(A)/427 of the Indian Penal Code.
As per on-duty police sources, the body was severely mutilated, and “only the neck and head remained recognisable.” The bike rider was also injured and has been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment.
The truck driver has been apprehended by the police and further investigation is underway, Basistha Police Station (PS) officers told G Plus. A post mortem has been done at the GMCH.
