The Sonitpur Press Club organised a COVID awareness programme with face mask distribution on Sunday in various locations throughout Tezpur town, including the ASTC bus stand, to educate people about prevention and precautionary measures for the COVID-19 outbreak.
The programme was officially launched by Sonitpur Press Club president Subhash Chandra Biswas, a senior advocate. Senior journalists such as Barlin Saikia, Pankaj Barua, Biswajit Boro, Dip Kumar Kalita, and Tarun Das attended the event.
Face masks were distributed to over 500 people in need and those who were not wearing masks. People were educated on the proper use of masks, the significance of social distance, and hygienic practises. About ten Tezpur University Department of Mass and Journalism students also volunteered, and they praised the members of the Sonitpur Press Club for their societal responsibility.
Subhash Chandra Biswas, President of Sonitpur Press Club, urged the general public to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 safety guidelines, such as wearing face masks and maintaining social distance.
“People have stopped using masks much. Some people have politicised vaccines but the truth is that vaccines have not killed anyone,” a concerned Guwahati resident Mr Shahjahan told media on January 19.
Guwahati reported around 2,000 of the total cases reported with which the positivity rate in Assam’s largest city stands at an all-time high of 20.62% with nearly 9,000 active Covid cases. Other major Covid hotspots in the state include Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Jorhat and Silchar.
