With 351 cases recorded on the third day of 2022, state of Assam has seen a quadruple increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. According to Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, 351 instances were registered in the state out of 36,613 tests.
With 0.96 percent, the overall positivity percentage was less than one percent. There were two deaths reported, with a recovery rate of 98.63 percent.
The overall number of cases documented in the Kamrup Metro, which mostly serves the city of Guwahati, increased by 164, compared to 78 the previous day.
It should be noted that the Assam government began a vaccination programme for students and youngsters aged 15 to 18 on Monday.
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta stated that the goal is to get all youngsters aged 15 to 18 immunised as soon as possible.
He further stated that Assam was ready for COVID-19 and even Omicron, stating that the state had already provided 9000 beds.
The government has kept 1000 ICU beds out of the total of 9000, while 2600 are specialised oxygen beds. If the state reports any Omicron cases, new SOPs may be issued.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted that the overall positivity percentage on Monday was 0.96%, which continues to remain under 1%. The positivity rate on Sunday was 0.79% .
