Tinsukia Women’s College was declared a containment zone by the Tinsukia district administration after 16 students, teachers, and personnel tested positive for Covid on the campus.

According to a university circular, the college campus will be closed for three days due to a Covid emergency, but college administrative officials will be allowed to attend with a 50% workforce.

According to the circular, all additional urgent work and form filling will be completed, but only in accordance with Covid protocols.

Tinsukia Women’s College has issued a circular urging all students, teachers, and non-teaching staff to get Covid virus tests. The College will be closed from the 8th to the 10th of January 2022. (Both days inclusive).

The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati, was recently declared a containment zone after 60 people on campus tested positive for Covid. “North Guwahati Revenue Circle has filed a report on IIT Guwahati, where 60 persons were unwell and tested positive for COVID-19, with data of their place of stay and their limits,” the administration said in a statement released on Wednesday.

The Assam government has introduced new Standard Operating Procedures to combat the spread of Covid 19 in response to an increase in the number of cases. From January 8 until further notice, all Kamrup district schools up to class 8 will be closed. From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., night curfews have been imposed.

Anyone visiting any public location after January 15 will need to be fully vaccinated, with the exception of hospitals. If unvaccinated people enter public places such as malls, cinema halls, or restaurants, the owners of those establishments may face fines of up to Rs 25,000.

Assam has seen a significant increase in Covid cases in the last three days, with cases of the novel variety Omicron already registering nine cases in the last two days, three of which have been cured. On Friday, Assam added 1,167 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of active cases in the state to 3,601.
