The State Election Commission said on Tuesday, following COVID-19 protocols the election to the 36-member Tiwa Autonomous Council in Assam will be held on December 17. The counting of votes will be done two days later.
State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar said, the timing for polling will be from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm across the Council’s 36 constituencies spread over Nagaon, Morigaon, Hojai and Kamrup Metropolitan districts.
The final date to fill nomination papers is November 25 and the scrutiny of the documents will be done the following day, said Kumar after issuing the poll notification.
The candidates can withdraw their nomination till November 28, he said.
On urgent requirement, re-poll will be done on December 18 and votes will be counted on December 19, he added.
Kumar said, the guidelines of the Election Commission of India will be followed by the State Election Commission to conduct the poll during COVID-19 pandemic, Kumar said.
