According to police, five active cadres of various underground outfits in Manipur were apprehended with arms and ammunition in separate operations as part of security measures ahead of the upcoming polls. In the last 24 hours, three UNLF cadres, one each from Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) were apprehended, according to the statement.

Last night, a combined team of 15 Assam Rifles and Imphal West police commandos arrested three UNLF operations cadres at various locations under the Imphal police station, according to the police. They were also found with two small arms (a Glock pistol marked as Glock 30Gen4 USA.45) and three magazines containing 30 live rounds, according to the police. Sanasam Shyamsal Meitei alias Nanao (30) of Hiyanthang, RK Solomon alias Amon Singh (47) of Thangmeiband, and Waikhom Nganglentomba Meitei alias Gogo (47) of Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai were identified by the police.

According to the police, the operation was carried out based on reliable information about the presence of some active members of the UNLF in the said areas. The arrested individuals and recovered items have been turned over to the Imphal police station for further action, according to the police.

Concerning the arrest of a KCP (PWG) active cadre, police said the militant was apprehended by a combined team of Imphal East police commandos and troops from the 16 Assam Rifles from Pangei area under Heingang police station in Imphal East district last night around 7 p.m. According to the police, the underground cadre was identified as Mangsatabam Romesh Meitei alias Tonjao (18) of Luwangshangbam Awang Leikai. While the combined team was on random frisking and checking duty along a road in Pangei, he was apprehended. According to the police, he had one.32 pistol loaded with three live rounds in a magazine, two Chinese-made hand grenades, and two KCP (PWG) demand letters signed by its finance chief Wanglemba Meitei. According to the police, the arrested person was handed over to the Heingang police station for further legal procedures.

A team of Imphal West police commandos arrested a KYKL cadre from Tharoijam Bazar crossing under Patsoi police station in Imphal West district around 12.40 pm today. According to police, the arrested underground cadre was Wahengbam Momocha Singh (34) of Heirangoithong, who is currently residing in Taothong Leikai. According to the source, the arrested person was handed over to the Patsoi police station for further action.
