Manipur : Govt to appoint Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu as Additional SP

On Monday, the Manipur government planned to appoint Olympic silver medalist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu as Additional Superintendent of Police (Sports) in the police department.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh made the statement while inspecting the installation of the cryogenic oxygen plant at Porompat and the construction of the COVID hospital by the DRDO in Kyamgei.

“Mirabai Chanu would also be rewarded with Rs 1 crore as announced by the government,” he told media persons.

He also announced that Olympian Judoka Likmabam Sushila Devi will be promoted from Constable to Sub-Inspector. The Chief Minister stated that each participant will receive Rs 25 lakh.

He also stated that the state administration has planned to construct a world-class weightlifting academy in the state over the next few months.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, returned to India on Monday after a stunning performance at the current Tokyo Olympics.

At the Delhi airport, the silver medalist was subjected to a required RT-PCR test.

When Chanu arrived in Delhi from Tokyo, she was greeted warmly by the airport personnel, who applauded for her.

Chanu began India’s medal count on Saturday, taking silver in the Women’s 49kg division at the Tokyo International Forum.

During her four successful tries, she lifted a total of 202 kilogrammes (87kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk).
