Manipur : Gyanendro Ningombam new Hockey India president

Manipur’s Gyanendro Ningombam took victory over Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad as the newly elected Hockey India (HI) President unoppposed, on Friday.
On violation of the National Sports Code’s tenure guidelines, Ahmad was directed to resign by the sports ministry.
After being elected unopposed for the senior vice-president’s post at HI’s Congress and Elections, Ahmad in whatever way, continues to remain in the federation.
Ningombam is elected as the first President of Hockey India (HI) from the North East region.
Ningombam holds the designation of “officiating president” after Ahmad formally presented his resignation in July stating personal and family obligations. The ministry was later accused by Ahmad for working with deceiving motive by asking him to resign from the post.
Between 2009-2014, Ningombam was the Chief Executive Officer of Manipur Hockey.
HI secretary general, Rajinder Singh said,”I congratulate Mr Gyanendro Ningombam on being Elected Unopposed as the President of Hockey India and welcome Mr Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad back into the Hockey India Executive Board in a new capacity as the Senior Vice President”.
Singh added,”Planning for the upcoming year 2021 was another key discussion point, where the status of competitions for all 4 National teams were discussed”.
International exposure would be the door to Olympic success and the upcoming junior World Cups, he said.
