Manipur : HC directs State Government to fill vacant posts in forensic laboratory

The State Government is directed to fill up vacant posts in forensic science laboratory immediately by the Manipur High Court.

“Delay in submission of forensic reports directly impacted on the disposal of criminal cases”, said Manipur High Court.
Two-judge bench of the High Court consisting Chief Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice A Bimol passed the directive.

The director of forensic science laboratory submitted an affidavit to the Court.

Due to lack of manpower and division officers, the criminal cases are pending forensic results, the director of forensic science laboratory mentioned in their affidavit.

One post of Scientific Officer and two posts of Scientific Assistant are vacant in the Chemistry division while two more posts of Scientific Assistant are vacant in the Toxicology division.

To complete a huge number of pending cases, more manpower is needed in the ballistics division and the biology and documents division of the forensic science laboratory.

The vacant posts were ordered to be filled in the Forensic laboratory and a report on action taken in regards to the directive is to be submitted before February 11, 2021, directed the Manipur High Court to the state government.
