Manipur : Judo player Shushila Likmabam qualifies for Tokyo Olympics

Manipuri judo player Shushila Devi Likmabam has qualified for the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. She has registered her entry into the Olympics in the 48 kg category of judo. The International Judo Federation (IJF) gave the notification.

As per sources, Shushila Devi is the lone Indian judo player to qualify for the Tokyo Games.

Shushila(24), is the fifth athlete from Manipur to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics which will start from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

Other players who made it to the Indian contingent from the state of Manipur are boxer MC Mary Kom, weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, women’s hockey player Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam and men’s hockey player Shanglakpam Nilakanta Sharma.

The Judo Federation of India (JFI) sent out Shushila to the World Judo Championship, held from June 6 to 13 at Budapest in Hungary along with two other Indian judokas.

Previously, Shushila earned a silver medal in women’s 48 kg weight class in judo at the Commonwealth Games of 2014 in Glasgow.
