The demand by the Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association (FEGOCTA) for implementing the 7th University Grants Commission (UGC) Pay and Regulations 2018 has been supported by the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM).

The student body stated that the UGC 7th Pay and Regulation 2018 being a national policy is taken as a benefit by the government college teachers, therefore the government should not hesitation from approving it.

The teachers under FEGOCTA have been demanding for its implementation since 2018 which is still not rolled out.

To bring up the issue once again, the teachers have decided for a sit-in like protest as their final option.

Kaikho Hopeson Mao, Education Secretary of ATSUM said, “FEGOCTA remains adamant, and the ongoing agitation of Government College teachers have entered day 7 with sit-in-protest in most of the government colleges of the state”.

Previously, the new UGC scale was approved by the Manipur state cabinet on August 6, 2020, but it is still to be implemented.
