Manipur’s Ukhrul district has got a government primary school for the first time in Varangalai, a small hamlet. The absence of the primary school forced the children to attend schools in Ukhrul town which are situated about 32 kilometers away.
The new government school building was inaugurated on December 29 by Chingai MLA Khashim Vashum. The primary school has been constructed by a local counsilor Paothing Vashum with the State Fund-2019-20 of the district council, The building is of six-rooms. The hamlet with only 36 houses, is within the jurisdiction of the Phungcham village in the district. Since the hamlet is too old to be not developed yet established in 1972, but it has been seen very little development till today.
“We have been sending our children to Ukhrul town for the past 40 years in absence of a school in Varangalai ,” a report quoted Ningkhan Pheirei, local chairman of Varangalai.
“We have been facing a lot of economic hardship because of this,” he said
