Manipur: Ukhrul declares emergency for protecting inalienable territorial rights

Following the ransacking of the office of the Tangkhul Naga Long(TNL) on 16th of April, Ukhrul Headman HA Sarimaya declared a state  Emergency to protect the inalienable territorial rights of Ukhrul.

The decision was taken after consulting all the constituent bodies of Ukhrul village Frontal Organizations at the Hanga Court Awungtang, Ukhrul.

The state of emergency came into effect after the Headman declared the present situation at Ukhrul as not in ‘a conducive  atmosphere.’ The declaration of emergency is the immediate fallout of the April 16 incident when the outraged public of Ukhrul ransacked the office of TNL.

Despite imposition of section prohibitory orders under Section 144 in Ukhrul town and opposition from the public of Ukhrul, the TNL went ahead and held its Assembly session.

The Headman said that, ‘The native people of Ukhrul must prepare to face any consequence in order to safeguard our inherent land rights and must stay vigilant in all movements’.

It might be mentioned that entertainment, celebrations or any big event cannot be organized without prior information to the village authority, later he added.
