6th Meghalaya Police battalion distributes blankets

As winter have started to approach, carrying blanket in their hands, officers and all ranks of 6th Meghalaya Police battalion reached out to the poor tribal villagers to distribute ‘Little Comfort’.

Keeping COVID-19 pandemic in mind, they decided to help the poor and needy people of the nearby villages, said Lakador Syiem, commandant of the 6th Meghalaya Police battalion, Umran.

Money to buy blankets was contributed by the officers and other ranks of the 6th Meghalaya Police battalion.

The 6th Meghalaya Police battalion launched its campaign – ‘Reaching Out – Beyond the Call of Duty’, on Tuesday.

Syiem said, “We started by donating 50 blankets to the neediest members of Umran Niangbyrnai village, who were identified by the Dorbar Shnong”.

The campaign ‘Reaching Out – Beyond the Call of Duty’ will continue in the coming weeks in the villages around Umran.

It is said that 50 blankets will be donated to the needy people identified by the VDPs and Dorbar Shnongs in each village, according to the 6th Meghalaya Police battalion.

“We have received contributions from our personnel and well wishers, and hope to gift 500 blankets during the run up to Christmas,” Syiem said.

An estimate of 900 blanket distribution has been made by the Meghalaya Police.

“We are grateful to our police personnel, deputy commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, friends, well wishers, donors and all those who supported us in this initiative of Reaching Out – Beyond the Call of Duty,” Syiem said.

Previously during the pandemic, children’s homes and some poor people received gifts from the 6th Meghalaya Police battalion.
