The Meghalaya government has decided to go ahead with the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate exams for the 12th standard despite the spike in Covid-19 cases in the state.
According to sources, the HSSLC exams will commence from April 16 and the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) exams will begin on April 19 in Meghalaya.
Senior officials at the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) which conducts the SSLC and HSSLC examinations in the state, have downplayed the seriousness of the Covid-19 situation saying that the examination centres are well equipped to conduct examinations for students during the ongoing pandemic.
Officials said that all examination centres have been directed to enforce Covid-19 protocols while the exams are being conducted.
However, students are apprehensive of sitting for the SSLC and HSSLC exams in view of the second wave of Covid-19 paralyzing normal life in many states of India, forcing many to impose partial lockdown and night curfews to contain the spread of the virus.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma has reviewed the Covid-19 situation in the state. He instructed the state health department to intensify efforts to vaccinate as many people as possible against the Covid-19 virus and also increase the number of vaccination centres in the state.
