Meghalaya : CM-level border talks between states

The state government was asked by the Congress MLA from Nongpoh, Mayral Born Syiem to look after the 12 area of differences with Assam. To end the long-pending issues, a Chief Minister-level talks was also recommended between the neighbouring states.

The problems which the border inhabitants had to face in all the 12 areas of differences were brought under the limelight of the state government by Syiem.

“Last year one SSA school was constructed but it was soon dismantled by Assam. They brought a JCB and dismantled the school structure and till now nothing has been done by the Meghalaya government”, said Syiem, quoting a case.

The issue was raised by Syiem during the Autumn session of the Assembly.

Referring to the lack of development, Congress MLA from Rambrai-Jyrngam Kimfa Marbaniang and demanded more schemes in those areas. The MLA’s constituency includes parts of the border areas with Assam.

In his argument he stated that Assam has been implementing various scheme in the border areas, whereas the Meghalaya Government has been busy ignoring the border population.

For the implementation of the PMGSY schemes, Assam has been placing hurdles, he said.
