At a coalmine in Meghalaya’s East Jaintia Hills district, six miners from Assam are trapped and their deaths are feared.
The incident occurred at Umpleng area of the district on May 29.
Meghalaya Police tweeted., “Information has emanated from SP Silchar that 6 persons from Assam are trapped in a coal mine in EJ Hills,”.
Cachar SP Vaibhab Nimbolkar Chandrakant informed about receiving input of the incident on May 31.
“We have received information that the bodies of five-seven workers were buried 500 feet down the mine shaft,” he added.
The Cachar police have been directed to join hands with their East Jaintia Hills correspondents and look into the incident, said Assam’s Director General of Police Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
Information has emanated from SP Silchar that 6 persons from Assam are trapped in a coal mine in EJ Hills .
The mine has been identified at Sutunga interior, under umplemg AD camp and search operations are on .
