Meghalaya: Conrad responds to contradictory statements on coal issue

Over the “contradictory” statement stated by Dr.Mukul Sangma on the coal issue in the state, Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma has asked the Opposition Leader to provide evidence to support his allegation on the issue.

Dr Mukul Sangma, Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister, claimed that the 32 lakh metric tonnes of extracted coal presented to the National Green Tribunal (NGT) by the government is false. In further allegations he said that, Officials of the Mining Department are operating under the threats of the Government.

Sangma reacting to this said, Dr Mukul’s statement was “political” even though he stated that the government has followed all necessary instructions and guidelines from the Supreme Court and the NGT.

The Chief Minister answering to a question on the delay in the auctioning of coal said that the process was on and that transportation from pit head to depots is being done and the process of auctioning will soon start in the districts.
