The entry of tourists from Britain into the State has been prohibited by the Meghalaya Government in view of new corona virus variant in the United Kingdom.
The Home (Political) Department of the Meghalaya Government issued the order.
The order has come into immediate effect and will be in place until further orders.
The order passed by Chief Secretary MS Rao said, “Following the emergence of a new and highly infectious strain of corona virus in United Kingdom, all tourists from United Kingdom are prohibited from visiting the State of Meghalaya with immediate effect and until further orders”.
Meghalaya re-opened for tourists from December 21.
All the UK returnees or entrants in the past 4 weeks (November 25 to December 23) were asked to provide their travel history of the past two weeks to the Surveillance Units in their respective districts and undergo RT-PCR test, asked the Health and Family Welfare Department in Meghalaya.
All those who test positive “shall be isolated in an institutional isolation facility in a separate (isolation) unit”.
