Due to technical drawback in the OTPC Palatana Power Plant in Tripura, a longer load shedding was experienced against the three hours scheduled timing on Saturday.
Power Minister James Sangma took to his twitter handle and wrote that due to a technical snag the 2nd Unit of the OTPC Palatana Power Plant has resulted in zero generation, affecting power supply across the Northeast.
Previously, a 3-hour load shedding was announced by the power department from April 24 due to the maintenance of 1 unit of OTPC.
The power shutdown will continue to exist until further orders.
Due to the shortage of power caused by the maintenance shutdown of 1 unit of the OTPC Palatana Power Station and delayed monsoons in Meghalaya resulting in a shortfall of 2-2.5 MU per day, we are having to resort to load shedding commencing from midnight tonight.

This has resulted in disruption of supply of power to all the north eastern States. MeECL has immediately given instructions for diversion of power from the industries to the public.
However, the earlier load shedding schedule for 3 hours as communicated earlier will continue.
