Meghalaya : Opp slams govt. over support of farm bills

The Chief Minister was slammed by the opposition Congress over support of central farm bills before the Agricultural Minister made any statement over it.

The Agriculture Minister is yet to look into the issues but without holding discussions with the farmers the chief minister has openly supported the bills, said Congress MLA, Ampareen Lyngdoh during a meet up held by the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee expressing solidarity with the farmers.

The needs of farmers in the state were requested to be protected via laws by the state government and that minimum support of price needs to be ensured.

Anti-government slogans were shouted and placards were being carried by the Congress leaders that demanded the immediate repeal of these three new acts which according to them “goes against the interest of the farmers”.

Placards which read “we support farmers”, “no farmers no food”, and “stop harassment of farmers” were also displayed by the Congress Leaders.
